Abstract
The purposes of intraoperative sonography are variable and are related to the stage of gastric cancer. In an early gastric cancer, the intraoperative sonography may be useful to detect a location of the tumor. But in the advanced cases, it may be indicated to evaluate local extension of the tumor and lymph node involvement. Also the intraoperative sonography may be useful in determinating resectability, operative procedure and resection margin of the tumor. During 8 months from Feb. 1990 to Sep. 1990 in Kyung Hee University Hospital, the authors analysed 25 specimens of gastric cancers by high-resolution operative sonography.

The results are as follows ;
1. In determining the depth of invasion and the resection margin, sonographic findings are corresponded to histo-athologic findings.
2. The intraoperative sonographic examinaion can be applied to determining the depth of invasion and resection margin. Especially it may be very useful in highly located lesion or early gastric cancer.
